Research Description
Dr. Beebe-Dimmer's research focuses on the epidemiology of genitourinary cancers, primarily cancers of the prostate and urinary bladder. Since joining the KCI / Wayne State University faculty in 2007, most of her effort has been devoted to the study of racial disparities in prostate cancer incidence and outcome, particularly the role that obesity and associated co-morbidities play in this disparity. She is currently in the fifth year of a Career Development Award from the NIH to enhance her training in genetic epidemiology and statistical genetics. Her work from the Flint Men's Health Study, a population-based study of prostate disease in African American men, and her collaborations with Henry Ford and WSU investigators investigate the association between metabolic syndrome, aggressive prostate cancer and biochemical recurrence.
